"There is a message in the wonders that surround us. Simply this: there is a God. Marvel at the Creator and know that you matter to Him."

The display is stunning, breathtaking to say the least. We walk beneath the night sky and marvel at the artistry. No painter’s brush can capture what our eyes are beholding. The moon cycles through various stages from one evening to the next. It explodes in fullness then slowly fades into darkness. No phase is exactly like the previous one or the next one. The tides are governed by it. The moon. Men have walked on it, but God controls it.

The stars provide the supporting cast. They stretch as far as the eye can see and further. There is no end to them. They align themselves exactly as the Lord commands. They shift slightly in location as the days go by, but they are always there. There’s the North Star that has been the navigator’s guide through the ages. We gaze at the Big Dipper as it shifts across the sky night after night but never disappears. It may be out of our line of vision, but it is forever out there somewhere. Ditto the Little Dipper. Countless other formations decorate the darkness. Astronomers know a tiny percentage of them. Most are far beyond anyone’s vision. The enormity and beauty of it all overwhelms us and raises a question (Psalm 8). Serious observers of the creation still ask it.

Why does the Creator of such magnificence care about puny people (8:4)? He who spoke all of this into existence and still controls it all thinks about us? The very one who took ordinary dirt, formed humans, breathed the breath of life into them, and crowned them with majesty and glory. Does he care about us? More than we can imagine. Share with the psalmist the wonder of what surrounds us, and we will ponder, too. How can He possible notice us?

We stand in awe of all of the various life forms. From the docile sheep to the angry alligator, they come in all shapes, sizes and temperaments. We run from some and cuddle with others. They soar through the skies with incredible grace and glide through the waters effortlessly. All are expressions of the majestic God who created us. The animals, birds and fish impress us, and the Lord placed them all in subordination to us. We sometimes forget (Or maybe never knew!) how special we are in our Creator’s sight.

You, whoever you are, were created in God’s image. He crowned you with glory and majesty. He set you over His magnificent creation. He gave His Son for you. His Son gave His life for you, dying for your sins and rising again. What is man that He takes thought of him? You are His special creation worth more to Him than anything else. That’s what. So is your neighbor. There is a message in the wonders that surround us. Simply this: there is a God. Marvel at the Creator and know that you matter to Him.
